I have always been a big fan of immersive theatre and I think it stems from my love of tabletop and live roleplaying games going back to the late 70s.
I have been a part of many immersive experiences over the years in the UK and in 2016, I landed a role working with the SAW movie director, Darren Lynn Bousman on something called “The Tension Experience.” This was a groundbreaking horror immersive theatre piece here in Los Angeles, directed by Darren and written by an insanely talented guy, and longtime Darren collaborator, Clint Sears.
I went from an understudy on day one of rehearsals to a larger role over the course of the show’s run, thanks mainly to the fact that the writing was so good and the other actors were so talented that it made me up my game to compete with them.
In January 2018, I landed a role with Just Fix It’s Creep LA production ‘The Willows,’ playing the family butler, Lindsay. Justin Fix is a very exacting but incredibly talented director, I learned a lot from him, and I am very grateful to have been a part of it.
In mid-2018 I landed a role in Jon Braver’s ‘Delusion: The Blue Blade’, playing the role of Stanfeld the German thief. This production had a budget the likes of which I had not seen in a theatre piece before. The plot was immense and the trip through the theatre area by the small groups was incredibly detailed and almost perfectly timed to coincide with the special effects and music. It required all the actors to be completely in tune and running like clockwork. I loved it! Sadly due to a health condition I had to drop out before the run ended and I am still bitterly disappointed by that, as I hate letting people down.
It was interesting to see that many of these productions employed some of the same cast members and I felt privileged and very lucky to have been a part of them.
I made some great friends from these productions. Some of them remain close to me and they have provided me with opportunities to work with them on other projects since.
I feel incredibly lucky that I was in the right place at the right time before ‘Tension’ in order to make these friendships.
They say that it is not what you know but who you know in this industry and whilst I still consider myself a pretty good actor, I am definitely bolstered and lifted up by the great friends I’ve made since moving here. You folks are wonderful. Thank you.
